ConstructSim Planner CONNECT Edition Update 5 Help

File Open Dialog and Open Dialog

Used to open an existing DGN file or a file of a different type as the active DGN file.

The File Open dialog opens when ConstructSim Planner is started without a DGN file specification or when Close is chosen from the File menu.

The Open dialog opens by entering the key-in DIALOG OPENFILE.

If you prefer to use the MicroStation Manager-type File Open dialog, from the Preferences dialog (Workspace > Preferences) Look and Feel category, turn off Use Windows File Open Dialogs.

A thumbnail image is stored in each DGN file that can be seen in the File Open dialogs as well as Windows Explorer (the latter in versions of Windows that support this functionality). After you have opened the file in a design session and selected File > Save Settings once, the thumbnail image is saved as a bitmap in standard clipboard format.

The MS_THUMBNAIL configuration variable can be used to control the behavior of thumbnail generation.

Note: By default, File Protection encrypts a file's thumbnail image and summary properties. These are the items displayed in Windows File Explorer, File Open, and File Properties dialogs. To remove encryption, you must set the MS_PROTECTION_NOENCRYPT_THUMBNAIL and/or MS_PROTECTION_NOENCRYPT_PROPERTIES configuration variables.
Note: If the preference Use Windows File Open Dialogs is on (the default) in the Look and Feel category of the Preferences dialog (Workspace > Preferences), the File, Edit, Directory, and Help menus are not present, but most of the functions provided in those menus can be performed using the icon bar.
Settings in parentheses show the text that displays if the preference Use Windows File Open Dialogs is off.
Setting Description
Look in (or Drives) Lists the drives and directories for selection.
List box Lists files for selection. The files listed reside in the directory chosen in the Look in option menu, filtered according to the file type chosen in the Files of type option menu. Double-clicking a filename in the list box selects the file.
File name (or Files) Shows the name of the file that is selected in the list box, or you can key in a filename. The list box lists the name of the existing files in the directory.

Tips: To bypass the Look in option menu, you can key in a complete path specification for a file in the File name field. Filter strings such as *.XYZ may also be keyed into the name field to limit the files displayed in the Files list box.

Files of type (or List Files of Type) Sets the type of file to open.
Open (or OK) Opens the selected DGN file. If the filename in the Name field is the same as the name of an existing file, an alert box asks if you want to overwrite the existing file. If a DGN file is already active, it is closed before the newly selected DGN file is opened.
Cancel Closes the dialog without opening a DGN file.
Options (or DWG Options) Opens an options dialog related to the file type selected in the Files of type option menu. For example, if Files of type is set to AutoCAD Drawing Files (*.dwg), highlighting a .dwg file and clicking the Options button opens the DWG Open Options dialog.
User Sets the environment or configuration that you want the next DGN File session to use. Choosing New opens a dialog that enables you to specify a workspace name and description. If you specify a name that exists, you will be given the option to overwrite it. If you create a new workspace, it becomes your current workspace; if you cancel from this dialog, your active workspace reverts to what it was previously.
Project Sets the location and names of data files associated with a specific project configuration. Choosing New opens a dialog that enables you to specify a project name and description. If you create a project with a blank name, you will get an error. If you try to create a project using a name that exists, a new project is not created, and the combo box defaults to the existing project of that name. If you create a new project, it becomes your current project; if you cancel from this dialog, your active project reverts to what it was previously.
Interface Choosing New opens a dialog that enables you to specify a user interface name and description. If you create a new user interface, it becomes your current user interface. An interface folder, stored in Bentley's ..\WorkSpace\Interfaces\ConstructSim folder, is created. It will contain a DGN library with the same name as the folder in which it is stored and in which you can define user interface customizations to be used only by you. If you create an interface with a blank name, you will get an error. If you specify a name that exists, you will be given the option to overwrite it. If you cancel from this dialog, your active user interface reverts to what it was previously.
